April 23, 2014

The League of American Bicyclists has announced that Cambia Health Solutions is being honored with a SILVER Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award for leading America toward a greener future. Portland-headquartered Cambia joins a cutting-edge group of more than 650 businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.

“Visionary business leaders are recognizing the real-time and long term impact that a culture of bicycling can create,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. "We applaud this new round of businesses for investing in a more sustainable future for the country and a healthier future for their employees."

Cambia’s efforts to encourage bicycle commuting include regular events and bike-related campaigns, secured bicycle rooms, discounted gym access that allows commuters to use shower facilities, company “bike commuter” jerseys, online resources and more.

“Bike commuting is a fun and highly visible way that Cambia helps empower our employees to make healthy choices,” said Jackie Yerby, Sustainability Program Manager at Cambia. “Portland leads the way as one of the top bike-friendly cities in the United States. We’re proud to play a part in Portland’s vibrant and healthy bike culture.”

Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon is proud to host the third annual Portland Employers Bike Summit on May 16 at their Woolworth Building at 1621 SW 1st Ave. This event brings together other Portland-area employers to support bicycle commuting and advocate for it in their workplaces. 150 expected attendees will hear a keynote speech from Commissioner Steve Novick and participate in a variety of workshops, including:

  • Don’t Sweat the Commute: Tips on attire and professionalism for commuters
  • Workplace Bike Amenities: Best practices from local bike-friendly employers
  • Joining Forces with HR: How to make the case to your human resources department for bike-friendly policies and resources
