The mission of Portland Women in Tech (PDXWIT) is to build a better tech industry by creating access, dismantling inequities and fueling belonging. PDXWIT centers its work on connecting people from historically marginalized communities who work in technology in the Portland metro area.
Cambia Health Solutions began sponsoring and hosting some of PDXWIT’s events in 2017 because its work aligns closely with Cambia’s commitment to increasing diversity in the tech workforce.
Most recently, Cambia hosted PDXWIT’s Winter Soiree & Awards Ceremony, which recognized allies and women who have made an impact on the lives of others by providing their skills, time and knowledge to advancing women in tech. The event included a raffle with prizes, including wine-tasting tours, tickets to the opera, hotel stays, and jewelry from well-known companies across the Pacific Northwest. It also helped raise more than $2,000 for PDXWIT.
Beth Shiffman, director of vendor and partner management in Cambia’s data and technology department, enjoys attending PDXWIT events because she meets new people from inside and outside of Cambia. “I met a bunch of people from Cambia that I didn’t know before in addition to a lot of people from around the Portland metro area who looking to pivot to a new job, learn about working in health care, and more,” said Shiffman.
